I founded Vernon Lodge in 1981, and began its development by creating a thriving Kindergarten. The school itself developed from the Kindergarten, in response to a demand from parents at the time, into the flourishing school it is today. From the beginning the vision was of a co-educational independent school with small classes and dedicated teachers who would be able to bring out the full potential ability of every pupil. I wanted it also to be a place where children would be safe and happy in a stimulating environment.
The Independent Schools Joint Council accredited the school in 1986, and the school is also an accredited member of the Independent Schools Association.
Over the past 30 years Vernon Lodge has developed a formidable reputation in all aspects of the curriculum. Academic excellence has been demonstrated by its high ranking position in national preparatory school league tables.
The school’s facilities have expanded beyond my early expectations – the original Victorian schoolroom with its lofty ceilings, and the old schoolmaster’s cottage have been transformed into the Kindergarten, classrooms, library, music room and computer room. Across the playground and garden which were used as allotments during World War 2, three classroom blocks, offices and hall have been added. We have also
acquired a playing field, an all weather court for tennis, netball and 5-a-side soccer, plus a good sized car park.
No one is prouder of Vernon Lodge than myself. The pleasure of sharing the happiness and success of past and present pupils is something I treasure. I know there will be much more to share in the future, and I hope your children will be fortunate enough to share in it too.
